Chandigarh, Dec. 19 -- : In two significant legal developments from Punjab, a suspended senior police officer has approached the Supreme Court challenging a corruption case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while the top court has sought a response from the Punjab government on the bail plea of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.

Suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar has filed a petition in the Supreme Court questioning the legality of an FIR registered by the CBI. Bhullar was arrested on allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from a trader in Mandi Gobindgarh. A middleman, identified as Krishnu, was also taken into custody in connection with the case.
