Bengaluru, Jan. 4 -- Reports that suspended Ballari SP Pavan Nejjur attempted suicide following his suspension triggered concern, but senior police officials and the Home Minister G Parameshwara strongly dismissed the claims on Sunday.
Nejjur, who took charge as Ballari SP just a day before clashes erupted between supporters of BJP MLA G Janardhan Reddy and Congress MLA Nara Bharath Reddy, was suspended for failing to restore law and order after the violence left a Congress worker dead. Officers close to him said he consumed sleeping pills at a friend's farmhouse in Baragur village, Tumakuru district, distressed by the sudden suspension and the pressures of his first executive posting in 11 years.
