Kathmandu, Sept. 13 -- Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was tonight appointed as the first female Prime Minister of Nepal.

She was appointed as the Prime Minister by President Ram Chandra Paudel in line with Article 61 (4) of the Constitution.

President Paudel administered the oath of office of secrecy to Prime Minister Sushila Karki at a ceremony at Sheetal Niwas, the President's Office late in the evening.

The government has been mandated to hold elections within six months.

Earlier today, an agreement was reached between President Ramchandra Paudel, Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel, and representatives of the Gen Z to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister and dissolve the Parliament.
