Bengaluru, July 21 -- BJP MP Tejasvi Surya today welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict in his favor, stating that the judiciary has sent a strong message that political battles must be fought in the public arena, not by misusing institutions.
Surya's remarks came shortly after the apex court dismissed a petition filed against him, which alleged that he had disrupted political harmony.
The court observed that political disputes do not belong in courtrooms and imposed a cost of Rs 25 lakh on the Karnataka state government for pursuing the matter.
The case in question related to an FIR filed against Surya over a social media post concerning a farmer's suicide in Haveri district, where he was accused of spreading fake news.
