New Delhi, March 7 -- In a major boost for Indian football, Sunil Chhetri has announced his return to international football, less than a year after bidding farewell to the national team.
The decision comes at a crucial time as India prepares for key international fixtures, including the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
Chhetri, 40, had initially retired from international football on June 6, 2024, following a goalless draw against Kuwait in a FIFA World Cup qualifier at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium. His departure marked the end of an illustrious international career, during which he became India's all-time leading goal scorer and most-capped player, with 94 goals in 151 appearances.
