Bhubaneswar, Oct. 6 -- In a landmark achievement for Odisha's healthcare sector, the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital 2, Phulnakhara, has successfully conducted the state's first radial endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), guided cryobiopsy for a peripheral lung lesion.
The patient, a 75 year old woman, had been experiencing breathlessness, persistent cough, and occasional hemoptysis for the past two months.
A CT scan of her chest revealed peripheral consolidation in the left lung.
While conventional biopsy techniques often face limitations in such cases, the innovative use of radial EBUS combined with cryobiopsy enabled the medical team to obtain high-quality tissue samples.
