Hyderabad, Aug. 11 -- Tension prevailed outside the Telangana State Higher Education Council on Monday as hundreds of students, led by State BC Students' Association president Vemula Ramakrishna, staged a maha dharna demanding immediate release of Rs 6,000 crore fee arrears to 14 lakh students.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP and National BC Welfare Association President R Krishnaiah accused the state government of neglecting crucial scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes, alleging that not a rupee had been released in 20 months despite budget allocations.

He warned that the delay was jeopardising students' futures, with many unable to obtain certificates, join higher studies, or take up jobs.
