Neeraj Bali, Jan. 7 -- A story from a small village in Haryana's Fatehabad district highlights how Indian society still risks a woman's life for the sake of a male child and societal norms, with a father openly admitting to taking a life-threatening medical risk in his desire for a son.
Sanjay, a daily-wage laborer from Dhani Bhojraj village in the Bhuna area, is now the father of eleven children. After nineteen years of marriage and ten daughters, his wife Sunita has finally given birth to a son. They have named him Dilkhush, "a reflection of the family's joy".
Speaking to UNI, Sanjay didn't shy away from the gravity of what had transpired as he said that the doctors warned him about his wife Sunita's hemoglobin level.
