New Delhi, Jan. 5 -- The stock market on Monday ended on a negative note with Nifty at 26,250. At close, Sensex was down 322.39 points or 0.38% at 85,439.62, and the Nifty was down 78.25 points or 0.30% at 26,250.30.
The mid and small-cap indices outperformed with the BSE Midcap index inched up by 0.05% and the Smallcap index rose by 0.07%.
Among the sectors, indices ended on a mixed note. Nifty Realty rose 2.07% while IT fell 1.43%.
Further, the consumer durables index rose 1.12%, while the oil and gas index fell 1.02%.
FMCG was up 0.68%, Media up by 0.62%, and Metal was up by 0.60%. Nifty Bank fell 0.18%.
The top gainers on the Nifty were Nestle India up by 2.76%, BEL up by 2.53%, and Eicher Motors up by 2.17%.
