New Delhi, Jan. 28 -- The stock market today closed on a strong note driven by optimism over an India-EU free trade agreement, with Nifty ending in green above 25,300 points.
At close, Sensex rose by 487.20 points or 0.60 per cent to 82,344.68, and the Nifty edged higher by 167.35 points or 0.66 pc to 25,342.75.
The BSE Midcap 150 index jumped 1.69 pc, while the Smallcap 250 index surged 1.81 pc, as the overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms jumped to nearly Rs 460 lakh crore from nearly Rs 454 lakh crore in the previous session.
Among the sectors, almost all the sectoral indices ended higher. Those in red were Nifty FMCG down by 0.71 pc, followed by Pharma by 0.22 pc, and Healthcare by 0.20 pc.
