Aizawl, Oct. 2 -- An unusual phenomenon has been reported in Sihfa village of northeastern Mizoram, where an outbreak of the stink bug species Udonga montana, locally known as Thangnang, has occurred.

Village council representatives confirmed the appearance of the swarms on Monday and provided further details today.

According to the council, the Thangnang bugs have congregated in large numbers in a forest about a kilometre from the village.

The sheer weight of the bugs has caused significant damage to the trees, with branches snapping under the pressure and the trunks bending as the bugs swarm them.
