Mumbai, Jan. 27 -- The State Excise Department carried out a major crackdown on illegal liquor storage and sale in the rural areas of Kalyan on Tuesday, seizing foreign liquor worth more than 18.55 lakh along with a four-wheeler and other materials. Two persons were detained in connection with the case, an official said.
According to officials, the operation was conducted by the excise department's flying squad in the rural belt of Kalyan taluka, following specific intelligence inputs. Acting on the tip-off, the team carried out a surprise raid at a warehouse.
