Mumbai, July 30 -- The Maharashtra government has cancelled a decision to redevelop the 'Sawli' government residential building near the BDD Chawls in Worli and to provide free, permanent housing in the redeveloped structure to the government officials and employees currently living there.

Under the ongoing BDD Chawl redevelopment project in Worli, chawl residents are being allotted free 500 sq. ft. homes on the same site. The previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had decided to rebuild nearby government buildings, such as the Public Works Department's residential complex, to offer free homes to the government employees living there.
