Lucknow, Feb. 5 -- The population of the Sarus Crane - the state bird of Uttar Pradesh - is increasing year after year, according to the statewide Sarus census conducted twice annually - summer and winter.
In the recent winter census carried out across 68 forest divisions of the state, a total of 20,628 Sarus were recorded. In comparison, 19,994 Sarus were counted in the previous year.
Etawah forest division recorded the highest number with 3,304 Sarus, while 10 forest divisions reported populations exceeding 500. Nearly 10,000 citizens actively participated in the winter census program across the state.
