Guwahati, Nov. 30 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the recommendations of the Group of Ministers on granting ST status to six communities was done in such a way that it would not affect the existing communities who currently enjoys the ST status.

The Chief Minister said that there are some misconceptions about the recommendations among some sections of people as they have not read the recommendations properly.

"However, we are sure that the recommendations to grant ST status to six communities were done in a manner so that it does not affect the prevailing rights and privileges enjoyed by the existing Scheduled tribe communities in Assam," he said.
