Chennai, Oct. 28 -- In a remarkable step towards enhancing passenger service anddigital efficiency, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Southern Railway hassuccessfully recovered over 120 missing mobile phones worth around Rs 30 lakhsand handed over its owners today since gaining access to the Central EquipmentIdentity Register (CEIR) in April 2025.
The facility was extended to RPF by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)to aid in tracing and restoring lost mobile phones of rail passengers.
Following the introduction of this facility, RPF has been able to track and retrievephones not only from within Tamil Nadu and Kerala, but also from distant states suchas Rajasthan, Assam, Telangana, and Maharashtra, demonstrating the national r...
