Srinagar, June 19 -- Kashmir witnessed an intense heatwave today, with several places including Srinagar recording their highest June temperature in decades.
The summer capital Srinagar sizzled at 35.2degC - its hottest June day in the past 20 years -surpassing the normal temperature by 6.8degC.
According to an independent weather observer, Faizan Arif, founder of Kashmir Weather, "This is the highest temperature recorded in Srinagar in the month of June since June 25, 2005, when the mercury had touched 36.5degC."
The all-time highest June temperature for Srinagar remains 37.8degC, recorded on June 29, 1978.
