Hyderabad, May 3 -- Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat first against Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL clash here on Sunday afternoon, with the absence of injured Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana continuing to trouble KKR, while young gun Smaran Ravichandran was handed his IPL debut for the hosts.

KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane admitted his side too wanted to bat first, but the bigger concern for the defending champions remains their depleted bowling attack without Pathirana, who has still not recovered in time for the contest.

"The break has really helped us. We've thought about the things we did well and the areas where we can improve. It's all about winning those small moments," Rahane said at the toss.
