Gorakhpur, Jan. 7 -- A speeding Scorpio SUV ran over six people warming themselves by a bonfire on Tuesday night in Rampur village, killing three and leaving several others seriously injured.
The incident occurred around 8 pm in front of the house of late Mohit in Rampur village, police disclosed on Wednesday.
According to police, the Scorpio was coming from the Jharkhandi side at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The SUV veered into the wrong lane and ploughed into people sitting near the bonfire.
Among the victims, auto driver Bhagwan Das (40) died on the spot. Prince (15), son of the late Mohit, was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at BRD Medical College.
