Bengaluru, Sept. 13 -- Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today called upon legislatures across India to establish clear benchmarks for the quality of their debates and to work collectively to eliminate planned deadlocks that disrupt parliamentary and assembly proceedings.

Addressing the valedictory session of the 11th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Conference, hosted by the Karnataka Legislature from September 11 to 13, Birla stressed that meaningful dialogue must remain the cornerstone of India's democracy. He observed that disruptions, often orchestrated on political or ideological lines, not only weaken the functioning of legislatures but also erode public faith in democratic institutions.
