Mumbai, Oct. 1 -- Ahead of the upcoming local body elections across the state, Samajwadi Party's Bhiwandi East MLA, Rais Shaikh, has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI), stating that if the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists is carried out during the election period, a large number of voters' names may be deleted.
Arguing that political parties would not have the time or resources to monitor the revision process properly during the elections, MLA Rais Shaikh further urged that the revision exercise be conducted only after February 2026, once the elections are concluded.
