Lucknow, Dec. 5 -- Samajwadi Party leaders were up in arms against the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh after the party was denied permission to hold a tribute meeting on the death anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar here on Saturday.
The meeting, in which SP president Akhilesh Yadav was the chief guest, is scheduled to be held at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on December 6, but the Lucknow police did not grant approval, forcing the cancellation of the event.
Party officials stated this at a press conference here on Friday. They stated that the police had denied permission under pressure from the BJP.
Party leaders accused the government of suppressing the voice of the Dalit community and preventing political events.
