New Delhi, Dec. 1 -- Samajwadi Party leader Arvind Kumar Singh has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls underway in Uttar Pradesh.
Singh has sought quashing of the Election Commission of India's (ECI) October 27 notification initiating the SIR process, along with all consequential directions, alleging that they violate Articles 14, 19, 21, 325, and 326 of the Constitution, as well as provisions of the Representation of the People Act and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
The petition also seeks a three-month extension of the timelines prescribed for Enumeration, Updation of Control Table, Draft Roll, and Final Publication of the electoral rolls.
