Nagpur, Dec. 14 -- Serious concerns over deteriorating electricity infrastructure and public inconvenience in South Mumbai were raised in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today, with a legislator flagging safety hazards caused by temporary repairs and the closure of electricity bill payment centres operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking.
The legislator Amin Patel said electricity is a basic necessity, but BEST continues to rely on temporary "jumping cable" arrangements to address underground cable short-circuiting instead of implementing permanent solutions to the underlying problem. He warned that such stop-gap measures pose significant safety risks and reflect inadequate planning by the utility.
