New Delhi, Dec. 20 -- Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi Saturday strongly criticized the government's decision to scrap the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), calling it an "attack" on the rights of rural poor.

In a video message, Gandhi recalled the Congress-led UPA government's unanimous passage of MGNREGA in 2005, saying it had provided a lifeline to millions of rural families.

"Modi government has bulldozed MGNREGA, removing Mahatma Gandhi's name and altering its framework without consultation," Gandhi said.
