Srinagar, Sept. 8 -- A soldier was killed and another injured during an anti-militancy operation today in South Kashmir's Kulgam, where security forces have so far gunned down two unidentified terrorists, officials said.

Army said that based on specific intelligence input provided by J&K Police, a joint cordon-and-search operation was launched by the Army, CRPF and Police in the Guddar forest area of Kulgam.

"Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and, on being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which two terrorists were eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries," the Army said.
