Lucknow, June 26 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday stressed that the philosophies of socialism and secularism bring people closer and he labelled people opposing these concepts as communal.

The SP president's statement comes as a counter to Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's yesterday's comment where he said that adding the word secular and socialist in the Constitution is against the soul of India.

Addressing a press conference here today, Akhilesh Yadav said that secular though protects the "Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb" of the country and it connects people of different religions to each other which makes society strong.
