Mumbai, June 20 -- A dispute over a social media status escalated into a violent mob clash in Washim district late Thursday, leaving many people injured and damaging properties.

The incident erupted around 9:30 pm in Vyawahare Galli when opposing groups armed with swords, rods, stones, and bricks engaged in brutal street fighting. An official on Friday said the situation is under control and peaceful.

Witnesses reported chaotic scenes as assailants shattered a medical shop's signboard and vandalized motorcycles, including one belonging to a local resident. "People were screaming while hurling stones and wielding weapons," the resident told media, adding that perpetrators fled towards Rajiv Chowk before the police intervened.
