Srinagar, Dec. 21 -- A fresh spell of snowfall lashed the higher reaches of Kashmir, while rain was recorded across the plains today as Chillai-Kalan-the Valley's 40-day harshest winter period-set in, officials said.
The inclement weather disrupted air traffic, with at least 14 flights cancelled at Srinagar International Airport due to adverse conditions. However, road connectivity remained partially intact. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the Valley's main all-weather link, remained open for traffic despite wet conditions. In contrast, the Mughal Road, Sinthan Road and the Srinagar-Leh highway were closed to vehicular movement owing to snow accumulation at several stretches.
