Jaipur, Oct. 6 -- At least seven patients were killed in a major fire that broke out in the Trauma Center of the SMS Hospital here late last night.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the hospital around 11:20 pm reportedly due to a short circuit that spread to a large portion of the building.
Flames were so intense that it left seven people dead, including 2 women. Patients admitted into the ICU ward were the most affected victims.
The deaths were due to burn injuries or suffocation, SMS Medical College Principal Dr Deepak Maheshwari said.
Eleven (11) patients were admitted to the Neurosurgical ICU ward. 06 of them died while five were rescued by shifting into other wards, a hospital spokesperson said.
