Digha, Dec. 12 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said Small-scale industries are prospering in the state.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of Bengal Business Conclave here, Ms Banerjee said in the last 8 years, the bank lending to the MSME sector was Rs 2.16 lakh crore, only in Bengal

She said about 40 lakh MSME units have been funded. The employment generation is close to 3 crores. The handloom and khadi sector has grown by almost 17 times.

The chief minister said there will be new employment of nearly 5 lakh in the leather sector.

To boost the village industries and weavers, relief materials like bedsheets, sarees will be procured from these industries through Tantuja. This will create 25 lakh mandays in th...
