Bratislava, Aug. 19 -- Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has reiterated his objections to Ukraine joining the NATO post its president Volodymyr Zelensky's talks with Trump, calling it the very reason behind Russia's military attack.

Taking to social media, he posted his objection to Ukraine gaining NATO membership, and wrote on X: "When, from the very beginning of the war, I rejected Ukraine's Nato membership as a fundamental prerequisite for ending the conflict, I was publicly crucified.

"Today, the fact that Ukraine will not be in Nato is already taken for granted."

In a video message, he criticised any additional sanctions on Russia and welcomed Donald Trump's mediation tactics, calling the Alaska summit a success.
