Shimla, Sept. 30 -- The Himachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board (HPPCB) has slapped a fine of Rs 5 lakh on SJVN Limited's 210 MW Luhri Hydro Project for illegally dumping construction debris along the embankments of the Satluj River at multiple locations, causing serious environmental concerns.
Despite repeated notices to install barrier structures and prevent muck from flowing into the river, the project authorities failed to comply.
Acting on the recommendation of the Regional Officer, Rampur, the Board's Member Secretary ordered the penalty as environmental compensation.
