Mumbai, Nov. 12 -- The Maharashtra government was severely reprimanded by the Bombay High Court on Wednesday for its "extremely casual approach" towards the spate of malnutrition-related infant deaths in the Melghat tribal region of Amravati district.

Describing the situation as "horrific," a division bench comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Sandesh Patil expressed deep concern over the sixty-five infant fatalities reported between June and November 2025.

The bench was hearing multiple public interest litigations related to recurring deaths of children, pregnant women and lactating mothers in Amravati district's tribal belt.
