Ranchi, July 22 -- Six labourers from Jharkhand's Jamtara district who were abducted in Tamil Nadu have been rescued safely following a coordinated effort between police of both states, Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari said today.

The workers, residents of Narayanpur block in Jamtara, had travelled to Tamil Nadu in search of employment. Their families later received video calls from the abductors demanding ransom, prompting them to alert local authorities.

Minister Ansari said he immediately informed Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari and Director General of Police Anurag Gupta after learning about the incident. According to him, the families had already paid a ransom of Rs 80,000 to the kidnappers under threat.
