Kendrapara, Jan. 29 -- Six fishermen were arrested on Wednesday by forest personnel for illegally fishing inside the "No Fishing Zone" of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary.
All the arrested fishermen were booked under Sections 27, 29, and 31 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and are punishable under Section 51 of the same Act. They were later produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Kendrapara, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary, Manas Kumar Das, said that forest personnel seized one VHF set, one GPS set, and a fish finder, along with 30 kg of marine fish from the arrested fishermen.
