New Delhi, March 31 -- A Special CBI Court in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced six accused to two years of imprisonment in a 26-year-old wildlife smuggling case involving the illegal possession and trade of tiger and leopard body parts.
The court, while pronouncing the sentence, also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on each of the accused - Mumtaj Ahmad, Jaibun Nisha, Ajij Ullah, Waheed, Sartaj, and Majeed.
The case pertains to a major recovery operation conducted during the investigation, in which a substantial quantity of prohibited wildlife articles was seized from the residences of the accused.
