Kolhapur, Oct. 17 -- Six bar dancers attempted mass suicide by cutting their wrist veins at a women's reformatory here, allegedly due to despair over not receiving bail from the court, police said today.

According to police, the six girls were arrested last month during a raid in the Shri Katyayani area of Karveer tehsil for their involvement in obscene dancing and prostitution at a dance bar. Following their production in court, they were placed in the City Women Reformatory.

Police said the girls were in a state of despair after failing to secure bail. They took the extreme step of attempting mass suicide by cutting their wrist veins.
