Chennai, June 21 -- Amul Kandasamy, a sitting MLA of the main Opposition AIADMK, passed away at a private hospital in Coimbatore on Saturday after a brief illness.

He was 60.

He was admitted to the hospital a few days back, but died this afternoon.

Mr Kandasamy was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly from Valpaarai Assembly constituency in the 2021 polls.

A widely respected leader in the region, he is also the Deputy Secretary of the MGR Youth Wing. He had also held various posts in the party, including in the Student's wing.

His body was being taken to his native Annur village for last rites.
