Sitapur, Oct. 10 -- A major stir erupted in the Biswan block of Sitapur district yesterday afternoon when a vigilance team from Lucknow arrested a village development officer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 at his residence.

According to official sources, the accused officer, Alok Kumar Goswami, had demanded the bribe from a complainant in exchange for releasing payment for completed government contract work.

The complaint had been filed with the Superintendent of Police (Vigilance Establishment), who received the report on September 26, 2025.

Following a preliminary investigation that confirmed the authenticity of the allegations, the vigilance department laid a trap.
