Bhubaneswar, July 10 -- Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, today emphasized the importance of cluster-based development as a strategy to scale up fish production in India.

He encouraged fish farmers to utilize financial support available under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme to expand operations.

Singh was speaking at a function held at the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) in Bhubaneswar to mark the launch of 17 new fisheries clusters under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

With these additions, the total number of fisheries clusters in the country has risen to 34, representing a major step in strengthening the sector.
