Kozhikode, June 9 -- A Singapore-flagged vessel (MV Wan Hai 503) caught fire near Beypore port, around 9.30am today, while en route from Colombo to Nhava Sheva Port in Mumbai. The Indian Coast Guard rescued 18 of the crew and shifted them to hospital for treatment.
The rescued crew were shifted to Mangalore Port around 1830 hrs for medical treatment.
The ICG Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Mumbai, rescued 18 of the 22 crew.
Of the 18 crew, two suffered serious injuries. All were shifted to the Indian Navy warship INS Surat and later taken to a Mangalore hospital for treatment, Coast Guard sources said.
According to reports, there are no Indian crew in the vessel, and most of them are from China, Tanzania, Indonesia and Myanmar.
