Bengaluru, Dec. 19 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday urged the Central Government to take immediate steps to ensure fair pricing and support for sugarcane farmers amid concerns over FRP, sugar recovery, and export restrictions.
Speaking on the challenges facing farmers in the lower house, Siddaramaiah said that in 2025-26, sugarcane cultivation in Karnataka covered approximately 7.4 lakh hectares, yielding an estimated 67 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and 53.72 lakh metric tonnes of sugar.
However, the current Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of Rs. 3,550 per tonne, after accounting for harvesting and transport costs, leaves farmers receiving only around Rs. 2,700 per tonne.
