Bengaluru, Jan. 3 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday expressed strong objection to the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre, accusing it of stripping powers from villages and undermining the rural economy.
Speaking to reporters on the "rollback" of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), he said, "By scrapping MGNREGA and introducing a new law under the name of 'VB G Ram G' without consulting state governments or taking public opinion, the Modi government has shown an authoritarian approach."He recalled that the UPA government under Manmohan Singh had empowered citizens through revolutionary schemes like the Right to Work, Right to Information, and Right to Education.
