Chennai, April 16 -- Sudden heavy rains lashed Chennai and its neighbourood bringing
in a major respite from the sweltering heat during the last couple of weeks.
The short spell of rain, which lasted about little over 30 minutes, was accompanied by gusty
winds and thunder.
The sudden rains left many roads in the city waterlogged.
It was quite heavy in suburbs as several low-lying areas were inundated.
The rains has taken the people by surprise as it brought down the temperature by a few degrees.
Though the met office attributed the sudden rains to the convective activity, the heat wave is likely
to persist with a sharp rise in mercury level by four Deg C in the coming days.
