Belagavi, Dec. 12 -- Expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Friday claimed that Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, after a "failed bid" to negotiate a power-sharing arrangement with the BJP, has now retreated into the Congress fold to "push" for the Chief Minister's post from within.

Shivakumar, however, has consistently denied any move to join the BJP, reiterating that the Congress is "like his mother" and he would never betray it.

Yatnal said the alleged covert meetings between Shivakumar and BJP leaders, including Karnataka BJP chief Vijayendra Yediyurappa, had "collapsed completely," forcing both sides into silence.
