Belagavi, Dec. 16 -- Defending the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2025, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Tuesday said the proposed legislation had been introduced in the broader interest of the state and society to promote harmony and safeguard law and order.

He said that society must function in a civilised manner without hatred, adding that the objective of the law was to prevent hatred and conflicts from disrupting public order, and asserted that the legislation would benefit both the state and society. He was responding to media queries during an interaction near the Belagavi airport and the Circuit House.
