Mumbai, Dec. 6 -- The Shiv Sena (UBT) today criticised Minister Nitesh Rane over his recent remarks linking the Tapovan tree-cutting issue with religious practices.

Party state organiser Akhil Chitre ridiculed Rane here on Friday and said that serious issues like deforestation are beyond Rane's "comprehension".

Chitre alleged that Rane's system runs only on "Hindu-Muslim" debates.

His comments come in response to Rane's post on X, where the minister questioned why environmental activists object to the cutting of trees in Tapovan but never oppose the slaughter of goats during Eid. Rane had further asked why those who hug trees in protest do not similarly embrace goats.
