Shimla, Nov. 4 -- The controversy over the extension of Shimla Mayor and Deputy Mayor's tenure has now reached the Himachal Pradesh High Court, adding a legal dimension to an already volatile political situation within the ruling Congress party.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Anjali Soni Verma challenges the state government's decision to extend mayoral terms from two and a half years to five years through an ordinance. The Urban Development Department, the State Election Commission, and Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan have been named as respondents.
