New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- Sharjeel Imam has moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the larger conspiracy case registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in connection with the 2020 North East Delhi riots.
The petition challenges the Delhi High Court's September 2 decision denying bail to Imam and eight others, Umar Khalid, Mohd Saleem Khan, Shifa Ur Rehman, Athar Khan, Meeran Haider, Shadab Ahmed, Abdul Khalid Saifi, and Gulfisha Fatima.
The riots, which erupted in February 2020 following protests over the proposed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), resulted in the deaths of 53 people and injuries to hundreds, according to Delhi Police.
